Learn six pranayama exercises from the Ayuryoga tradition and optimize your breathing and the flow of energy in your body.
Pranayama literally means extending and refining prana—our vital life energy. In Ayurvedic philosophy, prana is closely linked to Vata dosha and the elements of air and space. The physical expression of prana is the breath.
According to Ayurveda, health is not simply the absence of complaints, but a free and balanced flow of prana through all the subtle channels (nadis) and throughout all the body's tissues. When this flow is disrupted, we can feel empty, restless, or heavy.
Many people breathe shallowly or irregularly, often without realizing it. Parts of the body—and of ourselves—then lack space and oxygen. A prana deficiency can manifest as fatigue, sadness, a lack of inspiration, or a feeling of heaviness in body and mind.
The ancient yoga tradition developed pranayama as a refined way to reconnect with breath and life energy. Through conscious breathing techniques, we learn to support the flow and quality of prana. This not only helps purify and balance the body and mind but also deepens your yoga practice and restores clarity, creativity, and vitality.
